CASHMERE/MONITOR

Located 10 miles east of Leavenworth and 11 miles west of Wenatchee lies the quaint town of Cashmere. Named for Kashmir, India as it was believed to resemble those foothills, Cashmere offers a traditional small-town experience set at the foot of the Cascade Mountains on the Wenatchee River. To the east is the Columbia River, providing electrical power for the Pacific Coast and irrigation water to hundreds of thousands of desert acres into fertile farmland. Cashmere has a rich history of tree fruit production- including famed ‘Apple days‘ falling on the first weekend in October annually. It is said that Cashmere might be the best place to grow pears in the US. Downtown Cashmere offers a charming, patriotic sentiment and an alternative to Leavenworth’s busy Bavarian themed town. This community is tight, and the school system is well supported. Darling craftsman styled homes can be found doting the city’s side streets. A series of pretty side canyons are set outside of town, offering beautiful mountain views on larger parcels, perfect for those seeking a remote getaway in the mountains.
